Precise Coordinates Notes | I can’t locate Khirbet Asan precisely; these coordinates are for a recent excavation near Nahal Ashan, which is in the area, described in McKinny, Historical Geography of the Administrative Division of Judah (2014) (page 111) as "Ramot Neighborhood, Site 49;" Oded and Negev, Be’er Sheva‘, Ramot Neighborhood, Site 49 (2008) (page 15): 13069/07670; Oxford Bible Atlas, Fourth Edition (2007) (page 85) has a map that puts it close to 31.27,34.78; McKinny, Historical Geography of the Administrative Division of Judah (2014) (page 99) suggests that Negev Survey of Nelson Glueck: Summary (1975) (page 14), site 416, located at 1246/0780, is the same site, though it’s located 6.6km west-northwest (Archaeological Survey of Israel is in the right location for the site but doesn’t have remains from the appropriate periods, with Archaeological Survey of Israel and Archaeological Survey of Israel better matches); another survey in the area is Hadashot Arkheologiyot (31.293009,34.76803); the identification of Khirbet Asan with Umm el Azem is per McKinny, Historical Geography of the Administrative Division of Judah (2014) (page 99) |
