It was for those in Bethel, in Ramoth of the Negeb, in Jattir,
And in the hill country, Shamir, Jattir, Socoh,
together with all the villages around these cities as far as Baalath-beer, Ramah of the Negeb. This was the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Simeon according to their clans.
The house of Joseph also went up against Bethel, and the Lord was with them. And the house of Joseph scouted out Bethel. (Now the name of the city was formerly Luz.)
Jattir with its pasturelands, Eshtemoa with its pasturelands,
He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.
And he set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.
Then going from Bethel to Luz, it passes along to Ataroth, the territory of the Archites.
Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth-aven, east of Bethel, and said to them, “Go up and spy out the land.” And the men went up and spied out Ai.
