In the time of his distress he became yet more faithless to the Lord—this same King Ahaz.
Why will you still be struck down? Why will you continue to rebel? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.
They were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues. They did not repent and give him glory. The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in anguish and cursed the God of heaven for their pain and sores. They did not repent of their deeds.
I will return again to my place, until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face, and in their distress earnestly seek me.
For it will not be a testing—what could it do if you despise the rod?” declares the Lord God.
O Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You have struck them down, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to repent.
“See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!”
and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”
And Esther said, “A foe and enemy! This wicked Haman!” Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.
And when he was in distress, he entreated the favor of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.
