And when he had lifted him and brought him to his mother, the child sat on her lap till noon, and then he died.
As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her.
Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus has died,
Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
So the sisters sent to him, saying, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.”
(and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”
“Son of man, behold, I am about to take the delight of your eyes away from you at a stroke; yet you shall not mourn or weep, nor shall your tears run down. Sigh, but not aloud; make no mourning for the dead. Bind on your turban, and put your shoes on your feet; do not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men.” So I spoke to the people in the morning, and at evening my wife died. And on the next morning I did as I was commanded.
As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.
After this the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became ill. And his illness was so severe that there was no breath left in him.
Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more.
Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a robe of many colors.
He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
