And your servant thought, ‘The word of my lord the king will set me at rest,’ for my lord the king is like the angel of God to discern good and evil. The Lord your God be with you!”
He has slandered your servant to my lord the king. But my lord the king is like the angel of God; do therefore what seems good to you.
And Achish answered David and said, “I know that you are as blameless in my sight as an angel of God. Nevertheless, the commanders of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’
In order to change the course of things your servant Joab did this. But my lord has wisdom like the wisdom of the angel of God to know all things that are on the earth.”
Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”
But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.
A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.
The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and a man is tested by his praise.
Is there any injustice on my tongue? Cannot my palate discern the cause of calamity?
And all Israel heard of the judgment that the king had rendered, and they stood in awe of the king, because they perceived that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.
