A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.
At the same time he hoped that money would be given him by Paul. So he sent for him often and conversed with him. When two years had elapsed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. And desiring to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul in prison.
A lying tongue hates its victims, and a flattering mouth works ruin.
These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.
Everyone utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak. May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts,
For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the Lord.
