and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple.
Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.
For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel.
And all were astonished at the majesty of God. But while they were all marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples,
And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened. For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old.
But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition. But when they had commanded them to leave the council, they conferred with one another, saying, “What shall we do with these men? For that a notable sign has been performed through them is evident to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.
And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”
And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans?
The Jews did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight, until they called the parents of the man who had received his sight and asked them, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?” His parents answered, “We know that this is our son and that he was born blind. But how he now sees we do not know, nor do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him; he is of age. He will speak for himself.”
And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!”
