And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?”
And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”
and they said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?”
and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them, saying, “We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man's blood upon us.”
So the Jews said to him, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?”
let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well.
He answered, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid, and thought, “Surely the thing is known.”
But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.
The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst
they proclaimed a fast and set Naboth at the head of the people. And the two worthless men came in and sat opposite him. And the worthless men brought a charge against Naboth in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth cursed God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones. Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, “Naboth has been stoned; he is dead.”
