And you said, ‘Behold, the Lord our God has shown us his glory and greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire. This day we have seen God speak with man, and man still live.
Did any people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and still live?
And as the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him in thunder.
But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.”
So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.”
And Manoah said to his wife, “We shall surely die, for we have seen God.”
The Lord spoke with you face to face at the mountain, out of the midst of the fire, while I stood between the Lord and you at that time, to declare to you the word of the Lord. For you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up into the mountain. He said:
