So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose for us men, and go out and fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.”
Moses came and recited all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he and Joshua the son of Nun.
So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God.
So Moses took his wife and his sons and had them ride on a donkey, and went back to the land of Egypt. And Moses took the staff of God in his hand.
The Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A staff.”
For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on.
Our fathers in turn brought it in with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out before our fathers. So it was until the days of David,
So Moses spoke to the people, saying, “Arm men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian to execute the Lord's vengeance on Midian. You shall send a thousand from each of the tribes of Israel to the war.”
And Joshua the son of Nun, the assistant of Moses from his youth, said, “My lord Moses, stop them.”
And Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword.
These were the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.
