and my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.
May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow!
I have made their widows more in number than the sand of the seas; I have brought against the mothers of young men a destroyer at noonday; I have made anguish and terror fall upon them suddenly.
We have become orphans, fatherless; our mothers are like widows.
Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your burning anger overtake them.
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek,
give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
Therefore deliver up their children to famine; give them over to the power of the sword; let their wives become childless and widowed. May their men meet death by pestilence, their youths be struck down by the sword in battle.
Who considers the power of your anger, and your wrath according to the fear of you?
Fire devoured their young men, and their young women had no marriage song. Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows made no lamentation.
But you, you are to be feared! Who can stand before you when once your anger is roused?
For I was in terror of calamity from God, and I could not have faced his majesty.
“This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage that oppressors receive from the Almighty: If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword, and his descendants have not enough bread. Those who survive him the pestilence buries, and his widows do not weep.
