“You shall not oppress a sojourner. You know the heart of a sojourner, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
“‘Cursed be anyone who perverts the justice due to the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’
“You shall not wrong a sojourner or oppress him, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’
“You shall not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your towns. You shall give him his wages on the same day, before the sun sets (for he is poor and counts on it), lest he cry against you to the Lord, and you be guilty of sin. “Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death because of their fathers. Each one shall be put to death for his own sin. “You shall not pervert the justice due to the sojourner or to the fatherless, or take a widow's garment in pledge, but you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you from there; therefore I command you to do this.
Father and mother are treated with contempt in you; the sojourner suffers extortion in your midst; the fatherless and the widow are wronged in you.
They kill the widow and the sojourner, and murder the fatherless;
Love the sojourner, therefore, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be avenged, for the slave is his money.
