and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you.”
and there he built an altar and called the place El-bethel, because there God had revealed himself to him when he fled from his brother.
and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!” And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
“You shall tithe all the yield of your seed that comes from the field year by year. And before the Lord your God, in the place that he will choose, to make his name dwell there, you shall eat the tithe of your grain, of your wine, and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and flock, that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always.
“Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the Lord's; it is holy to the Lord. If a man wishes to redeem some of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it. And every tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that pass under the herdsman's staff, shall be holy to the Lord. One shall not differentiate between good or bad, neither shall he make a substitute for it; and if he does substitute for it, then both it and the substitute shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.”
God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there. Make an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”
And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he had spoken with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it and poured oil on it. So Jacob called the name of the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.
There he erected an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel.
And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”
From there he moved to the hill country on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to the Lord and called upon the name of the Lord.
Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba and called there on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God.
