Then Joseph said to the people, “Behold, I have this day bought you and your land for Pharaoh. Now here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land.
He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.
“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time?
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
Does he who plows for sowing plow continually? Does he continually open and harrow his ground? When he has leveled its surface, does he not scatter dill, sow cumin, and put in wheat in rows and barley in its proper place, and emmer as the border?
In the morning sow your seed, and at evening withhold not your hand, for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good.
The fallow ground of the poor would yield much food, but it is swept away through injustice.
Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.
The people curse him who holds back grain, but a blessing is on the head of him who sells it.
It is well with the man who deals generously and lends; who conducts his affairs with justice.
And there he lets the hungry dwell, and they establish a city to live in; they sow fields and plant vineyards and get a fruitful yield.
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble the Lord delivers him;
For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest.
The seven lean and ugly cows that came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty ears blighted by the east wind are also seven years of famine.
