But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.”
We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents,
But Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”
And now we call the arrogant blessed. Evildoers not only prosper but they put God to the test and they escape.’”
And they come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear what you say but they will not do it; for with lustful talk in their mouths they act; their heart is set on their gain.
In the time of his distress he became yet more faithless to the Lord—this same King Ahaz.
And King Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, saying, “On the great altar burn the morning burnt offering and the evening grain offering and the king's burnt offering and his grain offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their grain offering and their drink offering. And throw on it all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice, but the bronze altar shall be for me to inquire by.”
