But a man dies and is laid low; man breathes his last, and where is he?
And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God,
so a man lies down and rises not again; till the heavens are no more he will not awake or be roused out of his sleep.
“Remember that my life is a breath; my eye will never again see good. The eye of him who sees me will behold me no more; while your eyes are on me, I shall be gone. As the cloud fades and vanishes, so he who goes down to Sheol does not come up; he returns no more to his house, nor does his place know him anymore.
When Jacob finished commanding his sons, he drew up his feet into the bed and breathed his last and was gathered to his people.
Immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. When the young men came in they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side.

The wicked is overthrown through his evildoing, but the righteous finds refuge in his death.
If I hope for Sheol as my house, if I make my bed in darkness, if I say to the pit, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ or ‘My sister,’ where then is my hope? Who will see my hope? Will it go down to the bars of Sheol? Shall we descend together into the dust?”
But the eyes of the wicked will fail; all way of escape will be lost to them, and their hope is to breathe their last.”
