“I have heard many such things; miserable comforters are you all.
As for you, you whitewash with lies; worthless physicians are you all. Oh that you would keep silent, and it would be your wisdom!
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;
The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.
For they persecute him whom you have struck down, and they recount the pain of those you have wounded.
“How you have helped him who has no power! How you have saved the arm that has no strength! How you have counseled him who has no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge!
“How long will you torment me and break me in pieces with words? These ten times you have cast reproach upon me; are you not ashamed to wrong me?
“Should a multitude of words go unanswered, and a man full of talk be judged right? Should your babble silence men, and when you mock, shall no one shame you?
How forceful are upright words! But what does reproof from you reprove?
Can that which is tasteless be eaten without salt, or is there any taste in the juice of the mallow?
