Drought and heat snatch away the snow waters; so does Sheol those who have sinned.
The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried,
Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol; death shall be their shepherd, and the upright shall rule over them in the morning. Their form shall be consumed in Sheol, with no place to dwell.
They spend their days in prosperity, and in peace they go down to Sheol.
But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’
But he who is joined with all the living has hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion. For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten. Their love and their hate and their envy have already perished, and forever they have no more share in all that is done under the sun.
The wicked is overthrown through his evildoing, but the righteous finds refuge in his death.
As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away; as wax melts before fire, so the wicked shall perish before God!
Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime, like the stillborn child who never sees the sun. Sooner than your pots can feel the heat of thorns, whether green or ablaze, may he sweep them away!
When he is carried to the grave, watch is kept over his tomb. The clods of the valley are sweet to him; all mankind follows after him, and those who go before him are innumerable. How then will you comfort me with empty nothings? There is nothing left of your answers but falsehood.”
One dies in his full vigor, being wholly at ease and secure,
My brothers are treacherous as a torrent-bed, as torrential streams that pass away, which are dark with ice, and where the snow hides itself. When they melt, they disappear; when it is hot, they vanish from their place.
