For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing that he should take delight in God.’
that you ask, ‘What advantage have I? How am I better off than if I had sinned?’
They say to God, ‘Depart from us! We do not desire the knowledge of your ways. What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit do we get if we pray to him?’ Behold, is not their prosperity in their hand? The counsel of the wicked is far from me.
You have said, ‘It is vain to serve God. What is the profit of our keeping his charge or of walking as in mourning before the Lord of hosts?
It is all one; therefore I say, ‘He destroys both the blameless and the wicked.’ When disaster brings sudden death, he mocks at the calamity of the innocent.
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times?
If I wash myself with snow and cleanse my hands with lye, yet you will plunge me into a pit, and my own clothes will abhor me.

that the evil man is spared in the day of calamity, that he is rescued in the day of wrath?
