“He who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty.
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.
Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.
But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.
Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to fall, and I am not indignant?
To the choirmaster. Of David, the servant of the Lord. Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes. For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated. The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit; he has ceased to act wisely and do good.
Have mercy on me, have mercy on me, O you my friends, for the hand of God has touched me!
I could strengthen you with my mouth, and the solace of my lips would assuage your pain.
But you are doing away with the fear of God and hindering meditation before God.
Behold, you have instructed many, and you have strengthened the weak hands. Your words have upheld him who was stumbling, and you have made firm the feeble knees. But now it has come to you, and you are impatient; it touches you, and you are dismayed.
