You have made us scum and garbage among the peoples.
when slandered, we entreat. We have become, and are still, like the scum of the world, the refuse of all things.
They wandered, blind, through the streets; they were so defiled with blood that no one was able to touch their garments. “Away! Unclean!” people cried at them. “Away! Away! Do not touch!” So they became fugitives and wanderers; people said among the nations, “They shall stay with us no longer.”
I have become the laughingstock of all peoples, the object of their taunts all day long.
All who pass along the way clap their hands at you; they hiss and wag their heads at the daughter of Jerusalem: “Is this the city that was called the perfection of beauty, the joy of all the earth?”
He shall lend to you, and you shall not lend to him. He shall be the head, and you shall be the tail.
And you shall become a horror, a proverb, and a byword among all the peoples where the Lord will lead you away.
And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you shall only go up and not down, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, being careful to do them,
