For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife,
For it was Herod who had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, because he had married her.
But Herod the tetrarch, who had been reproved by him for Herodias, his brother's wife, and for all the evil things that Herod had done, added this to them all, that he locked up John in prison.
Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee.
For when Herodias's daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. And the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.”
And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not,
Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples
John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and people were coming and being baptized (for John had not yet been put in prison).
There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
