And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
But others said, “He is Elijah.” And others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”
and he said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead; that is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.”
“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.
So they said again to the blind man, “What do you say about him, since he has opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.”
And there was much muttering about him among the people. While some said, “He is a good man,” others said, “No, he is leading the people astray.”
Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” And they answered, “John the Baptist. But others say, Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.”
When they heard these words, some of the people said, “This really is the Prophet.” Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “Is the Christ to come from Galilee?
by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen.
And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”
And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?”
And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”
