But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius?
Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you came to do.” Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him.
And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.
What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part? By no means! For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?”
Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be in the right?
“Do you think this to be just? Do you say, ‘It is my right before God,’
Shall one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty, who says to a king, ‘Worthless one,’ and to nobles, ‘Wicked man,’
who travels in company with evildoers and walks with wicked men? For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing that he should take delight in God.’ “Therefore, hear me, you men of understanding: far be it from God that he should do wickedness, and from the Almighty that he should do wrong. For according to the work of a man he will repay him, and according to his ways he will make it befall him. Of a truth, God will not do wickedly, and the Almighty will not pervert justice.
Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?”
