for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold.
How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold, and my yield than choice silver.
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
Man does not know its worth, and it is not found in the land of the living. The deep says, ‘It is not in me,’ and the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’ It cannot be bought for gold, and silver cannot be weighed as its price. It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, in precious onyx or sapphire. Gold and glass cannot equal it, nor can it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.
Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.
