I know, O Lord, that your rules are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.
For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
By no means! Let God be true though every one were a liar, as it is written, “That you may be justified in your words, and prevail when you are judged.” But if our unrighteousness serves to show the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unrighteous to inflict wrath on us? (I speak in a human way.)
The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.
Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right; I hate every false way.
At midnight I rise to praise you, because of your righteous rules.
I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules.
If his children forsake my law and do not walk according to my rules, if they violate my statutes and do not keep my commandments, then I will punish their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes, but I will not remove from him my steadfast love or be false to my faithfulness.
All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.
For God has no need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment.
“The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.
Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?”
Righteous are you, O Lord, when I complain to you; yet I would plead my case before you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive?
