How shall we sing the Lord's song in a foreign land?
The songs of the temple shall become wailings in that day,” declares the Lord God. “So many dead bodies!” “They are thrown everywhere!” “Silence!”
They shall not pour drink offerings of wine to the Lord, and their sacrifices shall not please him. It shall be like mourners' bread to them; all who eat of it shall be defiled; for their bread shall be for their hunger only; it shall not come to the house of the Lord.
In that day the Lord God of hosts called for weeping and mourning, for baldness and wearing sackcloth;
The old men have left the city gate, the young men their music. The joy of our hearts has ceased; our dancing has been turned to mourning.
Then you will say in your heart: ‘Who has borne me these? I was bereaved and barren, exiled and put away, but who has brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; from where have these come?’”
a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
