In the cover of your presence you hide them from the plots of men; you store them in your shelter from the strife of tongues.
For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.
You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
You shall be hidden from the lash of the tongue, and shall not fear destruction when it comes.
Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, from the throng of evildoers, who whet their tongues like swords, who aim bitter words like arrows, shooting from ambush at the blameless, shooting at him suddenly and without fear.
The arrogant have hidden a trap for me, and with cords they have spread a net; beside the way they have set snares for me. Selah
They make their tongue sharp as a serpent's, and under their lips is the venom of asps. Selah
Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!
In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor; let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised.
Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods, because in this affair they dealt arrogantly with the people.”
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.
So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.
he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions,
Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
For I fear that perhaps when I come I may find you not as I wish, and that you may find me not as you wish—that perhaps there may be quarreling, jealousy, anger, hostility, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder.
Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy.
