Of David. Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers!
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!
Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the Lord all the day.
Fret not yourself because of evildoers, and be not envious of the wicked,
Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways,
Be not envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them,
For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
And her rival used to provoke her grievously to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb. So it went on year by year. As often as she went up to the house of the Lord, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat. And Elkanah, her husband, said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? And why do you not eat? And why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons?”
Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
When a man's folly brings his way to ruin, his heart rages against the Lord.
