For my enemies speak concerning me; those who watch for my life consult together
Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and plotted together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.
For I hear many whispering. Terror is on every side! “Denounce him! Let us denounce him!” say all my close friends, watching for my fall. “Perhaps he will be deceived; then we can overcome him and take our revenge on him.”
They lay crafty plans against your people; they consult together against your treasured ones.
They stir up strife, they lurk; they watch my steps, as they have waited for my life.
For I hear the whispering of many— terror on every side!— as they scheme together against me, as they plot to take my life.
When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death.
If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood; let us ambush the innocent without reason;
The wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to put him to death. The Lord will not abandon him to his power or let him be condemned when he is brought to trial.
he lurks in ambush like a lion in his thicket; he lurks that he may seize the poor; he seizes the poor when he draws him into his net.
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,
Moreover, Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Let me choose twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue David tonight. I will come upon him while he is weary and discouraged and throw him into a panic, and all the people who are with him will flee. I will strike down only the king, and I will bring all the people back to you as a bride comes home to her husband. You seek the life of only one man, and all the people will be at peace.” And the advice seemed right in the eyes of Absalom and all the elders of Israel. Then Absalom said, “Call Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear what he has to say.”
Saul sent messengers to David's house to watch him, that he might kill him in the morning. But Michal, David's wife, told him, “If you do not escape with your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.”
