“Will the Lord spurn forever, and never again be favorable?
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. Lord, you were favorable to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob.
I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he appeals to God against Israel?
For the Lord will not cast off forever, but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love;
How long, O Lord? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?
Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger to all generations?
But now you have cast off and rejected; you are full of wrath against your anointed.
though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
How long, O Lord? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire?
A Maskil of Asaph. O God, why do you cast us off forever? Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?
But you have rejected us and disgraced us and have not gone out with our armies.
Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord. I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in my name, saying, ‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ How long shall there be lies in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy the deceit of their own heart,
