Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the Lord on high is mighty!
who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult of the peoples,
You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them.
The sea looked and fled; Jordan turned back. The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs. What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back?
and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed’?
And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Do you not fear me? declares the Lord. Do you not tremble before me? I placed the sand as the boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail; though they roar, they cannot pass over it.
but you, O Lord, are on high forever.
For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord,
