Surely there are mockers about me, and my eye dwells on their provocation.
And her rival used to provoke her grievously to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb. So it went on year by year. As often as she went up to the house of the Lord, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat.
And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”
My friends scorn me; my eye pours out tears to God,
I am a laughingstock to my friends; I, who called to God and he answered me, a just and blameless man, am a laughingstock.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I went about as though I grieved for my friend or my brother; as one who laments his mother, I bowed down in mourning. But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered; they gathered together against me; wretches whom I did not know tore at me without ceasing; like profane mockers at a feast, they gnash at me with their teeth.
His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land.
Bear with me, and I will speak, and after I have spoken, mock on.
Will it be well with you when he searches you out? Or can you deceive him, as one deceives a man?
