he keeps back his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be lighted with the light of life.
He has redeemed my soul from going down into the pit, and my life shall look upon the light.’
And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,
Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
When the jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul cried with a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.” And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
and he is merciful to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down into the pit; I have found a ransom;
His soul draws near the pit, and his life to those who bring death.
He does not believe that he will return out of darkness, and he is marked for the sword.
