Will he then make repayment to suit you, because you reject it? For you must choose, and not I; therefore declare what you know.
Whatever the Lord pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps.
If you have any words, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify you.
He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.
For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution,
since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels
“Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?”
But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?”
saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’ But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?’
“Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’?
If the righteous is repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner!
If his children forsake my law and do not walk according to my rules, if they violate my statutes and do not keep my commandments, then I will punish their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes,
Who has first given to me, that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine.
For according to the work of a man he will repay him, and according to his ways he will make it befall him.
Answer me, if you can; set your words in order before me; take your stand.
You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be forsaken for you, or the rock be removed out of its place?
Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself, for emptiness will be his payment.
Behold, he snatches away; who can turn him back? Who will say to him, ‘What are you doing?’
