But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you mean.”
Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear.
And Peter was following him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with the guards to see the end.
But all this has taken place that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.
And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.
And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.” And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.
Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
Whom did you dread and fear, so that you lied, and did not remember me, did not lay it to heart? Have I not held my peace, even for a long time, and you do not fear me?
The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.
One's pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.
Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.
Depart from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commandments of my God. Uphold me according to your promise, that I may live, and let me not be put to shame in my hope! Hold me up, that I may be safe and have regard for your statutes continually!
