When the wicked dies, his hope will perish, and the expectation of wealth perishes too.
The hope of the righteous brings joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.
Such are the paths of all who forget God; the hope of the godless shall perish. His confidence is severed, and his trust is a spider's web.
But the eyes of the wicked will fail; all way of escape will be lost to them, and their hope is to breathe their last.”
And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’
The wicked is overthrown through his evildoing, but the righteous finds refuge in his death.
When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.
The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them. I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them.’ You blew with your wind; the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters.
Will you still say, ‘I am a god,’ in the presence of those who kill you, though you are but a man, and no god, in the hands of those who slay you?
