A wicked man puts on a bold face, but the upright gives thought to his ways.
The righteousness of the blameless keeps his way straight, but the wicked falls by his own wickedness.
Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you,
Consider from this day onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month. Since the day that the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid, consider: Is the seed yet in the barn? Indeed, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have yielded nothing. But from this day on I will bless you.”
“Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways.
Because he considered and turned away from all the transgressions that he had committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
O Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You have struck them down, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to repent.
Blessed is the one who fears the Lord always, but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
When I think on my ways, I turn my feet to your testimonies;
Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!
“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.
Now then, consider from this day onward. Before stone was placed upon stone in the temple of the Lord,
“As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you. But we will do everything that we have vowed, make offerings to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we did, both we and our fathers, our kings and our officials, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, and prospered, and saw no disaster.
Were they ashamed when they committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed; they did not know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among the fallen; when I punish them, they shall be overthrown, says the Lord.
Lift up your eyes to the bare heights, and see! Where have you not been ravished? By the waysides you have sat awaiting lovers like an Arab in the wilderness. You have polluted the land with your vile whoredom. Therefore the showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come; yet you have the forehead of a whore; you refuse to be ashamed.
He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be broken beyond healing.
Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways.
