They spoke against God, saying, “Can God spread a table in the wilderness?
And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food.”
Now the rabble that was among them had a strong craving. And the people of Israel also wept again and said, “Oh that we had meat to eat!
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
And Moses said, “When the Lord gives you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the Lord has heard your grumbling that you grumble against him—what are we? Your grumbling is not against us but against the Lord.” Then Moses said to Aaron, “Say to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, ‘Come near before the Lord, for he has heard your grumbling.’” And as soon as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud.
and the people of Israel said to them, “Would that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”
And the people quarreled with Moses and said, “Would that we had perished when our brothers perished before the Lord!
Where am I to get meat to give to all this people? For they weep before me and say, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat.’
For he adds rebellion to his sin; he claps his hands among us and multiplies his words against God.”
It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven.
But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?”
And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem as they spoke of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men's hands.
